Nokia N93 Review

Starting with multimedia capabilities, the new Nokia N93 includes a 3.2 megapixel auto focus camera with Carl Zeiss optics and 3x optical zoom, a 2.4″ QVGA display, and full audio/video playback capabilities. The camera is worth noting, not only due to its still image capabilities, but also its ability to capture video in VGA resolution at 30fps – enough for a good experience while utilizing the built in TV-out functionality. As with the other two devices announced from Berlin today, the N93 supports direct uploading to the Flickr photo-sharing site from the handset’s Gallery and Camera applications. Storage-wise, the N93 includes 50MB of on board memory, and miniSD expansion.

Review:

Overall, while the Nokia N93 is still a rather large device, its feature set is surly enough to justify it. The N93 should be available during July this year, though no operator support has been announced yet.

Review

The Nokia 6021 is an excellent non-camera phone, clearly intended for the business user. It's a nice-sized phone that's not heavy, yet not too light. It's design is purposeful and smart, with a functional, well designed keypad. The core theme of the 6021 is connectivity. Taking the voice aspect of this first, the 6021 is a great phone for just talking - good reception, excellent voice clarity, plus the benefit of an integrated handfree speaker and voice commands. Looking at messaging, it does everything from MMS to full support for email protocols. Data transfer via GPRS and EDGE is as fast as it gets without a 3G network, with data transfer speeds of 177.6 kbps possible (subject to network). Finally, connecting to other devices is taken care of with full Bluetooth connectivity, plus infra-red and USB. However, and this does seem to be an obvious ommission, the 6021 does not support Apple isync, so beware of this if you're an Apple user.

The Nokia 6220 is a business class phone that also includes features like an integrated digital camera, video recorder and FM radio. A novel feature of the Nokia 6220 is the EDGE connectivity, which along with GPRS provides a very high-speed internet connection. In addition, the 6220's XHTML browser provides a rich full colour interface to the web. Nokia have resisted the temptation to make the appearance of the 6220 "cool" and have sensibly provided a conventionally-styled keypad, making the phone usable as well as smart.

Similar in many ways to the Nokia 6220, the 6230 is a business class phone that also includes features like an integrated digital camera, video recorder and a music player.Slightly larger and a touch heavier than the 6220, the Nokia 6230 brings a number of enhancements, not least being the active TFT colour display with 65,536 colours, compared with the measly 4096 colours of the 6220. The 6170 is well-featured. Its specification includes a VGA camera (640 x 480 pixels) with a video recording capability and a media player. The 6170 has good connectivity via high-speed data transfer on EDGE networks and USB. It's missing a Bluetooth connection, but has most features that you'd expect from a modern phone, such as 40-voice polyphonic ringtones and Java games, plus a few extras and comes packaged in a nice metal case. Battery life is also excellent. A tad heavy, but no worse than most Motorola clamshells. Memory is limited so don't expect to store too many video clips.

The most obvious feature of the 3530 is the addition of a colour screen. With the high resolution screen reaching 4096 colours it presents a clear display that is a great size for game playing. This is combined with java ability and the option to download more games via wap 2. Nokia 3530 also supports GPRS and wap 1.2.1 making enhanced web browsing one of its key features.

If to compare this model to its forerunner Nokia 3510 we'll see that the phone got a full functional MMS (not only receiving but sending also). The main thing is that a color display showing up to 4096 colors and supporting HSCSD appeared... All the rest characteristics are mostly similar. Also several new panels both standard and graphic were produced.

Review

The Nokia 3120 is a compact and basic phone with a smart metallic finish and a conventional design. There's no camera on the 3120 altough there is an option to attach Nokia's "fun camera" if you want to take pics. The display is a passive matrix display that isn't easy to read in sunlight and has just 4096 colours, although that's all you can realistically expect at this price point. The handsfree speaker is a welcome touch, and the battery life is good. One fun feature is that the backlight flashes rythmically when the phone rings.This is an acceptable entry-level phone, but quite cheap and flimsy-looking. The keypad is conventional, but not as easy to use as it could be. Not the best entry-level phone.

Review

The Nokia 2652 is an updated version of the Nokia 2650 fold-design phone, available in the new "Cell" and "Fleur" motifs with silver chrome detailing. Apart from the new look, inside the 2652 is not really any different from the 2650. The polyphonic ringtones have just 4 voices, making them pretty poor compared with 64-voice ringtones which are quite common on a lot of phones these days. The display is also small and low quality. The 2652 is slightly heavier than the 2650, at 97g, making it rather heavy for a phone with no camera or other advanced functionality. The 2652 is a basic entry-level phone with an attractive design and good battery life, but not much else to recommend it.

The Nokia 2650 clamshell phone, released in October 2004, has the kind of specification that Nokia's rivals were releasing over a year earlier. In fact, the phone has nearly identical features to the Nokia 3100 that was released 15 months earlier! The 3100 had the advantages of being a nice-looking, lightweight phone, whereas the 2650 is neither nice-looking nor lightweight.It is hard to say anything very positive about this phone, and it confirms the impression that Nokia don't yet "get" clamshells. Our advice would be: "look elsewhere!"

Available in the UK from September 2004, the Nokia 2600 is another "back to basics" phone from Nokia: no camera, no radio, a basic colour screen and, mercifully, a conventional keypad layout!The 2600 is not rich in features, but is a nicely styled phone that fits in your pocket and is easy to use. The integrated handsfree speaker is a nice touch.For some resaon, Nokia have decided to incorporate a spreadsheet function into the 2600. On a screen with just 128 x 128 pixels, this is an interesting decision!

The Nokia 1600 is an entry-level phone. It looks smart with its chrome detailing and compact size. Its very lightweight too.The keypad is reasonably easy to use, despite the numbers being split into two sections, and there's a nice 4-way scroll key. The user interface is graphical, simple to use, and makes good use of the small colour display.A good first phone, or a phone for someone wanting just the basics, the Nokia 1600 has a similar spec to the Nokia 1110. The 1600 has the benefit of a colour screen, but lacks the changeable covers of the 1110. Battery life is excellent, but storage for phone numbers and SMS messages is limited. The phone has MP3 ringtones, but don't expect too much from these!

Nokia 1110 is a low-end phone, which differs from the predecessors Nokia 1100 and 1101 in the body design, inversion screen with yellow backlighting and a new simplified menu. Besides, the new phone is equipped with 20-tones polyphony. The model was announced at the same time with Nokia 1600 (you can read the review), and namely the 1110 is a plainer version of the 1600. Even in design it more resembles the 1600 than the 11xx series predecessors. This model is a candybar with slightly splay corners. Phone size is not big and forms 104x44x17 mm, while the weight is 80 grams. You can carry it in a trousers and shirt pocket if you like. The phone body is made of plastic and is smooth by touch. Traditionally for Nokia the phone has interchangeable Xpress-on panels, that is why the body creaks even at slight pressures. The general impression of the body is positive, especially if you remember that is a low-end phone

Review

Nokia presented the Nokia 2300 model back in last year, in Moscow; however this model went for sale only now. This phone is targeted for the youth, and is presented in two colors – pink and grey. If the first one is obviously made for females, then the second one is made for men. The design once again became the company’s main target, the keyboard is made of smooth plastic, it pleasant when you touch it, the keys are oval and get crossed between each other. The keyboard looks unusual, but when you are actually use it no problems are encountered. I believe that this is the seldom exception when unusual keyboard design is actually convenient. The backlight is not even, the keys get highlighted differently, depending on the plastic’s color. For some reason this causes dissonance, typing without any source of light around is not as pleasant, as doing the same operation during the day.
